 Weapons, Armor and Their Kin

Weapons and armor. Probably the most complicated thing here at your friendly Arplakoon. Well, let's start with the basics of Weapons, shall we?

Arplakoon has a somewhat large variety of weapons from knives to guns. Each kind of weapon can be purchased somewhere, but they are quite weak unless they were bought secondhand from someone else. Weapons can only become stronger as they level up, and the only way to do that is through battling. The beginning level of weapons are level one, and they are usually labeled as "standard", like a Standard Sword or a Standard Staff. These weapons are notoriously cheap and poorly made, something that could have been easily inferred from the descriptions of them. The weapons are not powerful at all, even when you level them up thoroughly. Characters can have or even use multiple weapons at once, but common sense would dictate that certain weapons would be better for some situations than others and that it'd be impossible to use certain weapons simultaneously. You wouldn't really want to use a bow and arrow at close range, given that your enemy could easily knock the arrow off the string before you could so much as draw it, and it'd be impossible to wield a hefty hand-cannon if your character is already holding a sword in both hands. Given that the only weapons you can consistently purchase from stores are the standard ones, you'll probably want to upgrade your weapon sometime.

"Upgrade your weapon? Where can we do that, and where can we get the information about the certain weapon?"

I'm glad you asked that question, as if you hadn't I would have never written this.

Each type of weapon (e.g. blades, guns, staffs) has a different place where they can be upgraded, and these places are known as forges. Every forge has their own type of weapon which they specialize in, but there are some forges that can upgrade other weapons well, too. It's fairly easy to figure out what each forge specializes in; examples of their work often hang on the walls or some employee of the forge will state what they specialize in. What is required for a weapon to be upgraded is stated somewhere, whether it's on a piece of paper hanging outside or again, an employee explaining what they can do, so pay attention and you'll have all the information you need. Some forges need certain items to make a weapon into something new and better, others just need the weapon to be at a certain level. All forges will need your money, though.

Given the usage of Chrono Rings, armor has seen a decline in usage. Who needs heavy armor when you've got a force field? The veteran explorers of the galaxy, however, all share the same opinion. Armor is good to have even if you have a Chrono Ring, and it's even better to have when you don't use a Chrono Ring. It'll protect you even after your force field is shattered, after all. Some use it, some don't. It's all-in-all a good thing to have, in any case.

Armor, not too surprisingly, is quite expensive in comparison to weapons. It's harder to make, and they have to make multiple sizes to fit Kylians of every race and body type. Usually, you can only find the "standard" forms of armor in stores, which has the quality of that of standard weapons, but you may occasionally find something better in a regular shop or in the Trading Center on the internet.

Armor comes into three categories, and each has their strong points and weak points:

  • Heavy Armor Division:
This kind of armor is meant for those that love being on the front lines and in the heat of battle where they can take as many blows as they can deal out. Nobody can argue about their quality, but there are many who find the heavy weight and limited movement to be a bit of a put-off.

  • Middle Weight Armor Division:
Often called the "average" division, middle-weight armor is for those who want good defense and still be able to retain movement. It's lighter than heavy weight, but heavier than light weight armor. A good "in the middle" class of armor. Almost all the current users of heavy weight armor began with middle-weight.

  • Light Armor Division:
More for the battlers that don't think they'll actually be going hand-to-hand with someone but still want armor that won't limit their movement just in case, the light armor is quite easy to wear. It offers limited protection in comparison to the heavier armor and consequently, it's usually only the ranged fighters who wear this.

  • Cloak Division:
Typically infused with Chrono for additional defense, cloaks are lightweight and favored by fighters who rely more on their ability to evade blows than the strength of their defense. Many cloaks are able to enhance Chrono-based spells and skills, and they can usually be worn with other armor.

Monsters can be equipped with armor and weapons. However, you have to first buy the armor or weapon you want your monster to have, then take it to a forge to be worked into a suitable size for that monster. Otherwise, it can't be used. Once changed, the armor or weapon can't be used by anyone else other than a monster of the same species unless it is taken to a forge and altered once again.

Like weapons, armor also levels up, and its defensive potential is raised along with it. Forges may need armor to be a certain level before they can forge it into something else, so make sure you level up your armor before taking it to a forge.

The bass is loud. It's impossible to hear it.
